I was raised in a house where my father was a Republican and my mother was a rabid Democrat. My father was a political reporter in Montpelier and went on to serve in the Snelling administration. My mother was active in decidedly Democratic groups like the League of Women Voters. We watched the news every night at dinner. First WCAX local news and the the CBS national news. I would read the Free Press with breakfast and the Times-Argus with my after school snack. On Sunday we would get the Boston Globe and the New York Times. There were never a lack of topics to discuss in our house. Having grown up in this environment, I have become a true centrist. I can look at issues objectively and have found the best solutions lie somewhere in the middle. We have let the radicals on either side of the aisle run the debate far too long.
