I think the web can only support knowledge based industries, think WebMD giving out lots of information but sending you to a doctor for their knowledge application to your situation. WebMD doesn't disrupt the medical services industry but adds to it.

Sorry, it posted before I could finish. The web is both information and knowledge combined, therefore it is the only instrument that can disrupt BOTH information and knowledge industries.

I think your question is the snake biting its tail, Tracy. An information industry can not be disruptive if the info has no solid knowledge base, and a knowledge industry can not be disruptive if it can not disseminate its information. Both can be disruptive, but only if they recognize and take advantage of the intersection of the two.

If I said that the web has a shot at disrupting information based industries but not knowledge based industries, would you get it? Better, yet, would you agree?
