I am a recent college graduate working at one of the largest financial institutions in the world. At first glance, it seems like I have an eccentric way of life: I believe that hard work and savings characterize a prosperous life. My way is discordant with the modern paradigm defined by leisure and debt espoused by contemporary America.
My opinion, however, is not unique. If you have a chance to meet one of those venerable Americans who were born before the end of World War II, seize the opportunity to learn about life. These Americans were born and raised in a time of hardship by people who taught them how to deal with hardship. Their lives are characterized by a time of circumspection where America was fiscally responsible and accumulated wealth. They believed in paying for one's own way in life.
I'm not always a Gloomy Guss. I like to talk about new knowledge and skills I acquire that I think would be useful to others. I read a few books; I will point out the good ones.
