"a full frame sensor has better low light capabilities, better dynamic range (i.e. less blown highlights, better detail in shadows) also you do get shallower depth of field, if you shoot portraits, there's a visible difference"

"A 30mm prime makes more sense than a 50mm since the 450D is a crop camera. the best 30mm is the Sigma f1.4, excellent low-light performance for events, parties, portraits, also ok for landscapes. Try renting it from a local photo store for a weekend....
