I’m a therapist in private practice and the Executive Director of GoodTherapy.org an organization of counselors dedicated to promoting and encouraging healthy psychotherapy and to helping people find good counselors and therapists. My concern about the tendency within the mental health field to view people as deficient & fundamentally flawed inspired me to counter the “deficient model” and to promote healthy psychotherapy through GoodTherapy.org. Our organization strives to provide consumers with useful information about the differences between healthy & not so healthy therapy and to help people find good counselors. GoodTherapy.org is just about a year old (2/2008) and we have over 1100 therapists worldwide from different theoretical backgrounds with one thing in common: all of them believe that people are naturally equipped with what is needed to feel peaceful and satisfied inside; and that people have the capacity to transform the obstacles which interfere with health & happiness.
