I'm a single mom. My daughter, J, is 11 and she is, of course, absolutely wonderful! Even if we are entering the scary world of boys, puberty and boys!

I have 2 jobs because my ex-husband doesn't pay his child support (and what I have to say about that would take WAY more than a 1,000 words!) At the age of 40, I had to put a nametag on again and work for minimum wage and tips to augment my part-time day job. I spend a lot of energy trying to make sure that this never happens to J. Sometimes an 11 year old can't understand why her mom is so determined to make her aquire an education and skills.

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment and I drive a 12 year old car my dad gave me but I think we're pretty lucky to have these things. There were a few years, not that long ago, where my gambling addiction nearly took everything from us. I'm still an addict but I don't gamble anymore - almost 4 years now!

I count my blessing every day.
