Guidelines
MyBlogLog is made up of many different types of people. These guidelines are here to make your life on MyBlogLog easier and to benefit the entire community. Your use of MyBlogLog is subject to these guidelines and to the Yahoo! Terms of Service.
Some Do's
- Do be nice. Trolls and stalkers can ruin a great community. Please play nice with others and think before you click the Send Message button. If we receive a complaint we will review it and, if appropriate, take action.
- Do send community messages to let your community members know when something is new on your site or when your blog address changes. Keep in mind that you want to encourage people to read your blog; repeated messages that offer no value to your members could result in their leaving your community. Remember the adage "All things in moderation."
- Do join communities that interest you. When you find a site that makes you happy, join the community. Read the blog, leave comments, and tell your friends about it.
- Do upload a great photo of yourself and spotlight your originality.
- Do tag members and sites with specific and relevant keywords. Tagging is a great service to the community by helping us all find great sites.
- Do send relevant messages to your community and to other members. Being connected to your peers, friends, and people with similar interests is fun. And it's the whole point of MyBlogLog.
Some Dont's
- Don't tag members with URLs, your site name, or anything else self-promotional. Using another member's profile as your personal billboard doesn't help the community. If you abuse the use of tags, we'll remove your tags and may take additional action.
- Don't get overzealous with your community messages. Put yourself in the position of your readers and ask yourself, "Would I want to be notified with this message, or am I annoying my readers?" If you annoy them, they will leave.
- Don't pretend to own a web site if you don't. Feel free to start a community for a site that you love. Fan sites benefit the community and the site owner. But please be clear that you are a fan when you set up the community and be prepared to turn the community over to the owner of the domain if they ask.
- Don't join communities or add friends just to gain eyeballs. We call this "contact spamming" -- indiscriminately adding hundreds of people as friends. You'll end up with far too many communities to follow, and the community owner won't know fan from poser. We consider contact spamming a form of abuse.
- Don't upload an avatar that is mature in content, and don't upload any image that is considered an adult image. If we learn about an adult image (and people WILL report it), we'll remove the image and may take additional action, which may include terminating your MyBlogLog account. Be sure to read our image guidelines.
- Don't spam. Spam includes bulk messaging; self-promotional messages; excessive links in messages, and any message whose only purpose is to bring you eyeballs.
And Some Points To Remember
MyBlogLog is not a neon signpost advertising your blog. When a great site gets added to MyBlogLog, natural growth is expected. We're happy that some of you have added new readers because of MyBlogLog. However, please remember that above all, MyBlogLog is about connecting people to blogs that interest them. If you send bulk messages to our members solely to market your site, we will take action.
We hate spam. We consider spam to be any of the following:
- Bulk messaging of any kind.
- Using mechanical means (or "bots") to ensure that your avatar or community is placed in a top position.
- Community invites to people you do not know or with whom you do not have a current relationship.
- Avatars that advertise a product. Yeah, we know you have a business, but your avatar represents you, not your business.
- Purely promotional messages like "Hey, I've got a hot site, check it out!"
Remember that there are people of varying ages on this site. Be responsible and be sure to classify your site as "adult" if it contains adult content. We take these issues very seriously. Remember, we do not allow pornographic images and if we receive a complaint, we will review it and, if appropriate, take action.
Other people may annoy you. You have the right to remove yourself from their contacts list and from their community. To take it a step further, you can remove them from your Recent Reader's widget and community page by clicking the red x when you hover over their avatar. If you see abuse (such as adult content, stalking, or spam), please report it. If not, understand that annoying someone may not be illegal and you have a way to remove yourself from the offending party.
These Community Guidelines were written with the best interests of our community in mind. Most of our members handle themselves well, and go out of their way to respect the other members here. If you don't think you can abide by these guidelines, then maybe MyBlogLog isn't right for you.
